MEXICO

Du 31/07 au 05/08 – Mifel Tennis Open – Los Cabos

The Mifel Tennis Open 2023 is a major sporting event taking place in Los Cabos, Mexico. The tennis tournament, which runs from 31 July to 5 August, will play host to some of the world’s best tennis players. In its seventh year, the tournament promises an impressive line-up, with six of the world’s top 20 players taking part. Confirmed entrants include Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, Russia’s Karen Khachanov, Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie, Australia’s Alex de Miñaur and American Tommy Paul. The tournament will be held at the Cabo Sports Complex, a sports complex with a stadium seating 3,500 spectators. Organisers expect to welcome more than 30,000 fans during the week of the tournament. The Mifel Tennis Open is a must for all tennis fans.

PANAMA

Second week in August – Festival National del Manito Ocueño – Ocú

The Festival National del Manito Ocueño is a major folkloric event in Panama, held every year in the second week of August. This celebration, one of the oldest and most important in Panama, aims to preserve and promote Panamanian folk customs and traditions. The festival takes place in the province of Herrera, where the village of Ocú is located. The festival, which officially dates back to 1967, was declared a National Festival in 1999. The name of the festival comes from the fraternity that exists within the culture of the village of Ocú, where the inhabitants are accustomed to greeting each other by shaking hands and saying “Ta’ la manito”. During the festival, you can enjoy a variety of celebrations, including the peasant wedding, the Tamarindo duel, the penitent of the afterlife, and the Rancho charge. The festival is a veritable treasure-trove of the cultural roots of the Panamanian people.

COLOMBIA

19/08 and 20/08 – 47th Villa de Leyva Kite Festival

The Villa de Leyva Kite Festival is an annual event held every third weekend in August in Colombia. Since its inception in 1975, it has attracted thousands of visitors who come to admire the sky filled with kites of all shapes, sizes and colours. Participants, ranging from children to professionals, compete in various categories. The festival takes place in the beautiful town of Villa de Leyva, recognised as a national monument for its colonial architecture. As well as the kite show, visitors can sample traditional Colombian dishes and explore the fabulous surrounding countryside.

BOLIVIA

25/08 to 26/08 – Fiesta de Ch’utillos – Potosi

The Fiesta de Ch’utillos, or Fiesta de San Bartolomé, is an annual celebration in Potosí, Bolivia. It commemorates San Bartolomé’s victory over the devil, a legend that dates back to 1589. The festival begins at La Puerta, where the chapel of San Bartolomé is located, and attracts thousands of people with traditional music groups, dances and typical Potosí dishes. More than 120 groups demonstrate the variety of Bolivia’s rich culture and traditions. In March 2022, the Ch’utillos festival was nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
