Tulum opens up to Europe: first direct flight to Germany
The state of Quintana Roo in Mexico is about to make history with the inauguration of the first direct air link between Europe and Tulum‘s Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport. From 12 December 2024, Discover Airlines, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, will link the heart of the Riviera Maya with Frankfurt, Germany, marking a major turning point in the history of tourism in the region.
The route that brings Europe closer to Mexico
This new air route, which will be operational until the end of April 2025, will offer two flights a week, providing a new and direct travel option between Germany and Mexico. The flights, operated by an Airbus 330 with a capacity of between 240 and 300 passengers, promise to provide easy access to one of Mexico’s most popular destinations, known for its idyllic beaches and Mayan archaeological sites.
Impact and outlook
The arrival of Discover Airlines in Tulum symbolises an open door to countless opportunities. For Quintana Roo, it means a significant increase in tourism, with direct economic benefits for local employment and services. For European travellers, it means quicker, more direct and more comfortable access to an exotic and culturally rich destination.
A response to growing demand
Discover Airlines’ decision to launch this route is in response to growing demand for more direct and efficient connections to Mexico, avoiding stopovers in the United States or Mexico City. It also reflects the recognition of Tulum as a major attraction for travellers in search of nature, history and adventure.
