Cartagena de Indias is in the top 25 best destinations according to TripAdvisor
Cartagena is among the top 25 trendiest destinations worldwide according to TripAdvisor, one of the leading international travel websites, which organises the “Traveller’s Choice Best of the Best” awards every year. The portal was based on the opinions and comments of millions of users who voted for the capital of the Bolivar region in northern Colombia, which ranked 22nd on the list.
Other Latin American destinations in this annual ranking include Porto Seguro and Gramado (Brazil), Cuzco (Peru), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Mexico City (Mexico).
Created in 2002, the awards are chosen based on user feedback about service, quality and customer satisfaction in hotels, restaurants and experiences.
“Cartagena is one of the spearheads in the promotion of tourism in Colombia and the fact that it receives this recognition is the result of the great work that the city is doing to establish itself internationally as a destination not to be missed. We are convinced that this city, with all its potential in terms of culture, music, gastronomy, diving, incentive trips, nature, among other unique experiences, will be the key to reactivating tourism in the country”, said Flavia Santoro, President of ProColombia.
The awards highlight the historic centre of Cartagena de Indias, its colonial architecture and its appeal as a cruise destination. In addition to these features, the platform highlights the walled city, the Getsemani district and the Castillo de San Felipe as must-see locations.
According to figures from Migration Colombia, Cartagena de Indias in 2019 recorded a 3.5% growth in foreign tourist arrivals compared to 2018, with more than 528,000 travellers.
This year, the Caribbean city was also nominated for the World Travel Awards, also known as the “Oscars of Tourism”, in seven categories for South America, among those of: most romantic destination, best cultural city and best city for honeymoons.
