The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024: Latin America takes centre stage
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking has been revealed, and Latin America continues to stand out on the international gastronomic scene. Several restaurants from the region have been recognised for their culinary excellence, creativity and commitment to local ingredients. Here are the establishments that shine in this prestigious ranking.
Peru: Lima at the top
Peru, and Lima in particular, stands out with several restaurants in the top 50. Maido, a restaurant offering a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, came fifth. Headed by chef Mitsuharu Tsumura, who was also individually awarded the Estrella Damm Chefs’ Choice Award 2024, recognition from his peers for his impact on world gastronomy and his innovations.
Kjolle, also located in Lima and headed by chef Pia Leon, came in sixteenth place. Kjolle is renowned for its colourful and creative dishes that highlight Peruvian biodiversity. Finally, Mayta, another Lima gem, came in at forty-first place, underlining the growing importance of Peruvian cuisine on the world stage.

Mexico: The Culinary Epicentre of Mexico City
Mexico City is well represented with several restaurants in the ranking. Quintonil, in seventh place, is run by chef Jorge Vallejo and is known for its modern cuisine that reinterprets traditional Mexican dishes. Pujol, run by the famous chef Enrique Olvera, is in thirty-third place and continues to attract gourmets from all over the world with its refined dishes and ancestral cooking techniques. Rosetta, another Mexico City establishment, is in thirty-fourth place, featuring Italian dishes with a unique Mexican twist.
Argentina: Buenos Aires in the Spotlight
Buenos Aires shines with Don Julio, ranked tenth. This restaurant, renowned for its grilled meats and warm atmosphere, is a must for fans of Argentinian cuisine. Don Julio’s sommelier, Pablo Rivero, was also honoured with the 2024 World’s Best Sommelier award, reinforcing Argentina’s reputation in the field of gastronomy.
Brazil: São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro
Brazil is represented by several outstanding restaurants. A Casa do Porco, in São Paulo, ranks twenty-seventh and is run by Janaina Torres, who was named the 2024 World Chef of the Year. This restaurant is famous for its pork-based cuisine, prepared in an innovative way that respects local traditions. In Rio de Janeiro, Oteque is in thirty-seventh place, offering a unique culinary experience with fresh, local ingredients.
Colombia and Chile: Rising stars
Colombia is proudly represented by El Chato, in Bogotá, in twenty-fifth place. This restaurant is known for its inventive cuisine that makes the most of local produce. Chile, with Boragó in Santiago, is in twenty-ninth place. Boragó is celebrated for its commitment to sustainability and its creative use of indigenous gastronomic ingredients.
The ranking of the world’s 50 best restaurants in 2024 highlights Latin America’s culinary excellence. With establishments that innovate while respecting local traditions, the region continues to assert itself as an epicentre of world gastronomy.
